Mockasin - Forever Dolphin Love (Erol Alkan Rework) is one
of my favourite remixes of the last years.
Connan Mockasin (born Connan Tant Hosford) is a psychedelic
pop musician from New Zealand. As part of the group Connan And The Mockasins he
released a couple of CDs in the mid-2000s
In 2008 he moved to Europe and since then he is working solo
in the sphere between folk and pop.
Connan Mockasin released his first album „Please Turn Me
into the Snat“ in 2010 on Erol Alkans label Phantasy Sound, containing the song
„Forever Dolphin Love“. He describes the inspiration for the song: “It was this 1996
documentary about the dolphin’s mating process. I remember my brother found it,
it was about this guy who wrote this thing on how you make love to dolphins,
everything, from getting them into 1.5 feet of shallows. It’s just real sick
the way he wrote it – it was really funny but it was supposed to be serious.”
The song was reworked
by Erol Alkan at Hercules Studios, London October 2010 with additional drums,
keyboards and guitar and instantly became a huge sucsess in the electronic
dance music world.
The London-based electro DJ of Turkish Cypriot descent is
well-known in the electronic scene since 2004 when he remixed Alter Ego’s trademark
techno hymn „Rocker“
The original 12“ release already changes hands for big
money, but recently a second 12“ set of remixes was released which can still be
purchased.
