These sounds are buzzing thru my house...my favorite songs right now...
DNA - The Kills ( of course!!!)
Bitter Branches - P.J Harvey
Undertow - Warpaint
She brings the rain - CAN
What she came for - Franz Ferdinand
Make some noise - Beastie Boys
Riverside - Agnes Obel
I'm so sorry - Kitty, Daisy and Lewis
and any old stuff from Madonna...hell knows why, but it gets in my ears and I can't stop singing...
it's getting summer ;o)
This song is about Anne Boleyn, Henry the Eighth's second wife.
So, Princess Catherine...you can be glad that those times are long gone. But be careful. It does not need a Tower to take a queen's/ princess' life nowadays.
At first the fingers start to twitch
The blood is set in commotion
The feet start to beat
Strange tattoos on the street
A warmth floods fast
(They grow wild)
The devil's dived
Inside their minds
Everyone's on fire
Like mad dogs they slather
Writhing and rabid
Feverishly twisting
A tragic display
Wrestling tremors
Imprisoned in prisms
Together in silence
They desperatly pray
Ferocious, voracious
Infectious, afflictions
Convulsions, contortions
Devour their victims
Heaven help me
A descent into savagery
Plummeting rapidly
They tried in vain
to shake this terrible hex
With reckless abandon
Belief was confounded
By spiralling, spluttering,
Quivering wrecks
These are my three favorite songs from the new Kills album:
DNA
Future starts slow
Baby says
DNA
When it came to pass,
Loaded, pass me by
Fate, with a single blow,
Has clustered by me now
True, I had my chance,
True, true, true I had those wild charms for you
Oh, oh...
My fire burned them out
But we will not be moved by it [2x]
Your mind would never ache,
When you were young and sound
The way your heart aches now,
You feel you sent them onto ground
Love, love, love til you got enough,
Dance, dance, dance, if you got no love around you Love, love, love, til' you got enough,
Dance, dance, dance, til' there's noone left to hound you
We will not be moved by it [2x]
Oh, oh...
Love, love, love til you got enough,
Dance, dance, dance, if you got no love around you Love, love, love, til you got enough,
Dance, dance, dance, til' there's noone left to hound you
We, we will not be moved by it
thank you for reading my blog. It started as a little project and now I'm almost hitting 3000 views. I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend. Stay tuned for more Lyrics to discover. Every finger in the room is pointing at me
I wanna spit in their faces
Then I get affraid what that could bring
I got a bowling ball in my stomach
I got a desert in my mouth
Figures that my COURAGE would choose to sell out now.
I've been looking for a savior in these dirty streets
Looking for a savior beneath these dirty sheets
I've been raising up my hands
Drive another nail in
Just what GOD needs
One more victim
Why do we crucify ourselves
Every day I crucify myself
Nothing I do is good enough for you
Crucify myself
Every day I crucify myself
And my HEART is sick of being in chains
Got a kick for a dog beggin' for LOVE
I gotta have my suffering
So that I can have my cross
I know a cat named Easter
He says will you ever learn
You're just an empty cage girl if you kill the bird
I've been looking for a savior in these dirty streets
Looking for a savior beneath these dirty sheets
I've been raising up my hands
Drive another nail in
Got enough GUILT to start
My own religion
Why do we crucify ourselves
Every day I crucify myself
Nothing I do is good enough for you
Crucify myself
Every day I crucify myself
And my HEART is sick of being in chains
Please be
Save me
I CRY
Looking for a savior in these dirty streets
Looking for a savior beneath these dirty sheets
I've been raising up my hands
Drive another nail in
Where are those angels
When you need them
Why do we crucify ourselves
Every day I crucify myself
Nothing I do is good enough for you
Crucify myself
Every day I crucify myself
And my HEART is sick of being in chains
Why do we
Crucify ourselves
Everyday
Never going back again
Crucify myself again
You know
Never going back again to
Crucify myself
Everyday
Happy easter !!!
Paul Simon released a new album this month. You might know him as one part from Simon & Garfunkel. But even after that time Paul Simon had a very successful solo career. He is one of the best songwriters of our times. His lyrics are funny, thoughtful, poetic, political, critical. He tells profound stories, which is rare in songwriting. Just listen to "Boy in the bubble"or "50 ways to leave your lover ". And "You can call me Al" is one of the funniest videos ever ( watch above )
Here are the lyrics of the title track from Paul's new record. And the video of course ! ENJOY!!!
So beautiful or so what
I'm going to make a chicken gumbo
Toss some sausage in the pot
I’m going to flavor it with okra
Cayenne pepper to make it hot
You know life is what we make of it
So beautiful or so what
I’m going to tell my kids a bedtime story
A play without a plot
Will it have a happy ending?
Maybe yeah, maybe not
I tell them life is what you make of it
So beautiful or so what
So beautiful
So beautiful
So what
I’m just a raindrop in a bucket
A coin dropped in a slot
I am an empty house on Weed Street
Across the road from the vacant lot
You know life is what you make of it
So beautiful or so what
Ain’t it strange the way we’re ignorant
How we seek out bad advice
How we jigger it and figure it
Mistaking value for the price
And play a game with time and love
Like pair of rolling dice
So beautiful
So beautiful
So what
Four men on the balcony
Overlooking the parking lot
Pointing at a figure in the distance
Dr. King has just been shot
And the sirens long melody
Singing Savior Pass Me Not
Ain’t it strange the way we’re ignorant
How we seek out bad advice
How we jigger it and figure it
Mistaking value for the price
And play a game with time and love
Like a pair of rolling dice
So beautiful
So beautiful
So beautiful
This is the final part of my trilogy " Hysteria / Ritual / Silent Hill ".
It's partly inspired by the ending of the movie "Silent Hill". It also belongs to the two other parts which deal with madness, obsessive behaviour and religious delusion. Finally the story has to end with the death of the protagonist, because it is the only solution to escape. But if one dies...how does one know he/she is dead ?
Hey guys, this is the second part of the southside feature.
Today: PORTUGAL.THE MAN from Yslaire
Enjoy !!!
Portugal.the Man is an american band founded in 2004 in Alaska. "Portugal simply sounds nice",
that 's the declaration from the band members. They just added "the Man" to show all, that they are not named after a country. So with this appendix the Band name stands for a Person's name....for the alter ego of the band.
It is not easy to describe the style of the band. You can't put them in a box and place them in your library under P like Postcore. Portugal.the Man are more than this.
Emerged from the 2002 founded Post Hardcore Formation "Anatomy of a Ghost" the two Highschool friends John Gourley and Zachary Carothers started together with Wesley Hubbard,Nick Klein and Harvey Tumbleson the new project Portugal.the Man.
The band left Alaska and went to Portland with the intention of recording and touring. They recorded the first demos in summer of 2004 and followed with a tour that fall. In spring 2005, Klein and Tumbleson left and soon after Jason Sechrist joined the band.
In january 2006 they released their debut record 'Waiter: "You Vultures!" '
On this album you will recognize the variety of this band. The style changes minute by minute. Surely you will find the primary hardcore influence, but the band knows how to handle this dusty leftover and mix it up with soul, progressive parts, emo, post and danceable electrorock. And at the end you have this typical Portugal.the Man style i love so much and which cannot be specified in one word.
Two years later they released their second album "Church mouth". Till 2011 they have released 5 other records, all recommendable, but the song i want to write about is from their second album, which i love most.
Its called MY MIND.
Stepping steps of floating floats
that float above such shining notes
They know just where we should rest
Policed and waiting patiently we knew where
we'd gone and where we'd be
(Just where/why their feet are moving)
We know this should never drown the seeds
ahhhhh ohhhhh
My mind is all
My mind is all
My mind is all gone
My mind is all
My mind is all
My mind is all gone
Deaf and dumb but fluent speech speaking
speaks and listening while
eating piled tangled sugar weaves
(Just where/why their feet are moving)
ahhhhh ohhhhh
My mind is all
My mind is all
My mind is all gone
My mind is all
My mind is all
My mind is all gone
My mind is
As I feel my body moving and feel these feet a
moving
My mind is
As I feel my body moving and feel these feet a
moving
A messy mess of fruits and pies
that dance about these aging eyes
They know just what becomes of seeds
(Just where/why their feet are moving)
A busy suit or dirty boys feeling rude in lazy lies
Oh my my my my
ahhhhh ohhhhh
My mind is all
My mind is all
My mind is all
My mind is
As I feel my body moving and feel these feet a
moving
This song is about an acid trip. But not one of the bad ones. It seems like the singer and some friends of him walk through an amusement park or over a fair and they are astonished about their reactions. Normaly their mind control everything. The speech, the walk, the cognition. Now after taking acid, the mind seems to be gone, but it all still works.....in a really nice way.
I dont want to celebrate drugs, but i think it is really enjoyably to hear a song about drugs, which is not so depressive like most songs with this subject. There's no denying that many artists, singers or painters used drugs in a creative nature and not for self-destruction.
Hey Guys....
as I told you I 'm starting the Southside feature. First Band is Kvertelak from Norway. My friend Jens wrote some infos about it, added a lots of links and the lyrics of the Song "Met". Maybe you know the Bands baroness, Converge or Turbonegro which are from the same background as Kvertelak. But don't expect the same music ! Kvertelak is a Hardcore Band and they sing norwegian !!!ONLY!!!
Kvelertak - Mjod (Met)
Stavanger, Norwegen. Kvelertak. Für mich der Geheimtipp des diesjährigen
Southside-Festivals 2011 schlechthin.
Das Cover ihres aktuellen (Debüt-)Albums "Kvelertak", was soviel bedeutet
Nå ska me ta ein liten sang
Den dreie seg om alkohol
Me har ingen sånne tekstar
Me vil gjerna ha litt spekter
Suttung fulgte hakk i hel
Odin kicka assen hans
Suttung leve ei mer lenger
Me har all den mjød me treng
Full av all dis galskap
Ska fyra opp ein liten tjall
Setta på litt svartmetall
Sammen med min beste venn
Odin ga oss
Suttung sitt mjød
Det magiske mjød
Det daglige brød
Odin ga oss
Suttung sitt mjød
Det magiske mjød
Det e bedre enn øl
Nattens sønner at og lengter
Så ska me pula Odins enka
Mens me råe riff ska sjenka
Svarte rever dekk attens
Sjå Kvelertaks bestilens
Odin ga oss
Suttung sitt mjød
Det magiske mjød
Det daglige brød
Odin ga oss
Suttung sitt mjød
Det magiske mjød
Det e bedre enn øl
Odin ga oss
Suttung sitt mjød
Det magiske mjød
Det daglige br
An english translation of the song ( it's not perfect !!!)
Now we are going to sing a little song It is about Alkohol We do not have any songs about it We would like to have a larger specter ... ... Suttung was always right behind Odin kicked his ass Suttung does not live anylonger We have all the mjød we need Full with all kind of madness We would like to have a larger specter
Gonna light up a little joint Put on some black metal With My best freind Yeaaahh.... Odin gave us Susstungs mjød The magical mjøOur daily bread Odin gave us Suttungs mjød The magical mjød It is better than beer The sons of the night longs ... ... Now we are gonne fuck Odins widdow While we make some wild riffs Black foxes hold back lay still See Kvelertak brutalety
I guess you have to have a problem
If you want to invent a contraption
first you cause a train wreck
And then you put me in traction
well first came an action
And then a reaction
But you can't switch around
For your own satisfaction
Well you burnt my house down
Then got mad at my reaction
Well in every complicated situation
There's a human relation
Making sense of it all
Take a whole lot of concentration
Well you can blame the baby
For her pregnant ma
And if there's one of these unavoidable laws
It's just that you can't just take the effect and make it the cause
[Chorus:]
Well you can't take the effect
And make it the cause
I didn't rob a bank
because you made up the law
Blame me for robbing peter
Don't you blame Paul
Can't take the effect
And make it the cause
I ain't the reason that you gave me
No reason to return your call
You built a house of cards
And got shocked when you saw them fall
Well I ain't saying I'm innocent
In fact the reverse
But if your heading to the grave
you Don't blame the hearse
You're like a little girl yelling at her brother
Cause you lost his ball
You keep blaming me for what you did
And that ain't all
The way you clean up the wreck
Is enough to give one pause
You seem to forget just how this song started
I'm reacting to you
because you left me broken hearted
See you just can't just take the effect and make it the cause
I'm going to the Southside festival in June. The line up is brilliant. I want to introduce some bands in a special feature here on my blog . http://www.southside.de/bands/index.php ( This is the line up )
I'll have some guest posts for this feature and I'm really excited about it ! Here are the nominees I chose for this feature ;o) : Monster Magnet, Kvelertak, Tame Impala, Arcade Fire, Band of Horses and Portugal the man.
So stay tuned for the first Soutside post to come !!!
I've been working on a cocktail called Grounds for Divorce
Whoah
Polishing a compass that I hold in my sleep
Whoah
Doubt comes in on sticks but then he kicks like a horse
Whoah
There's a Chinese cigarette case
And the rest you can keep
And the rest you can keep
And the rest you can keep
There's a hole in my neighbourhood down which of late I cannot help but fall
There's a hole in my neighbourhood down which of late I cannot help but fall
Mondays is for drinking to the seldom seen kid
Oooo
Oooo
There's this whispering of jokers doing flesh by the pound
To a chorus of supposes from the little town hoods
There'll be twisted karaokee at the aniseed lounge
And I'll bring you further roses
But it does you no good
And it does me no good
And it does you no good
There's a hole in my neighbourhood down which of late I cannot help but fall
There's a hole in my neighbourhood down which of late I cannot help but fall
There's a hole in my neighbourhood down which of late I cannot help but fall
Someday we'll be drinking with the seldom seen kid
Oooo
Oooo
This might be Elbow's most famous song. It's about their friend Bryan Glancy (seldom seen kid) who died when they worked on this album called "The seldom seen Kid" .
The "hole" in the Neighbourhood is a tiny bar in Manchester, where all the Elbow members come from and it could also be seen as a reference to the hole that their deceased friend left.
Also this song deals with the problems of constant drinking and gambling which are the death to every marriage in the end.
But now Elbow released their new album "Build a rocket, boys ". The songs are quieter and there's not such a smash hit as Grounds of Divorce on it. I believe you need to hear it several times, it has to unravel and develop until you find the treasures. And it's worth to listen to their previous records. The singer Guy Garvey has an amazing voice which reminds me so much on Peter Gabriel at his best times. Garvey himself admitts that Gabriel was one of his major influences. And Gabriel covered "Mirrorball" ( one of my favorite Elbow songs) for his latest record "Scratch my back".
If you want to know more about Elbow, here's a link to their webpage: http://www.elbow.co.uk/
Here are the lyrics from the new single "Open Arms"
You're a law unto yourself
And we don't suffer dreamers
But neither should you walk the earth alone
So with finger rolls and folding chairs
And a volley of streamers
We can be there for tweaks and repairs
Should you come back home
We got open arms for broken hearts
Like yours my boy, come home again
Tables are for pounding here
And when we've got you surrounded
The man you are will know the boy you were
And you're not the man who fell to earth
You're the man of La Mancha
And we've love enough to light the street
'Cause everybody's here
We got open arms for broken hearts
Like yours my boy, come home again
We got open arms for broken hearts
Like yours my boy, come home again
Everyone's here
Everyone's here
The moon is out looking for trouble
And everyone's here
Everyone's here
Everyone's here
The moon wants a scrap or a cuddle
And everyone's here
We got open arms for broken hearts
Like yours my boy, come home again
We got open arms for broken hearts
Like yours my boy, come home again
Everyone's here
Everyone's here
Everyone's here
Come home again
The moon is out looking for trouble
The moon wants a scrap or a cuddle
The moon is face down in a puddle
And everyone's here
I'm looking forward to see this great band this summer live on stage !!!
Here I've got another track from Woodkid's EP, which seems actually only available on I-Tunes right now :o(((
So...don't be sad...listen to another track here right now.
It seems, that music and lyrics that deal with war, fight, toil, fear and despair are in high favor these times....if you look at Esben and the witch or the new P.J. Harvey Album.
Maybe we need it, to cope with all this terrible news about Libya, Iran, Jemen, Afghanistan, Egypt, Ivory Coast and of course Japan... Or are we too fascinated by war and turmoil ??? I hope not ! So enjoy this track and think about peacefull things....and if you want to know more or see Woodkid's amazing IRON Video, look at my previous post!!!
Most of my sweet memories were buried in the sand
The fire and the pain will now be coming to an end
How did you get to save me from this desolate wasteland
In your eyes I see the dawn of brighter days again.
With my tears you washed away the mud stuck on my hands
All the things you're trying to do make me a better man
Now I remember the joy and the taste of candy cane
The innocence of youth and the sound of major scales.
Most of what I used to be had vanished in the waves
The memories of the boy I've been were drowning and you saved them
Now I remember the joy and the meaning of the fate
The color of the truth and the sound of sunny days.
Most of my sweet memories were buried in the sand
The fire and the pain will now be coming to an end
How did you get to save me from this desolate wasteland
In your eyes I see the dawn of brighter days again.
( Thanx to Magistrix !!!)
There is also a post about Woodkid's song "Iron" and the lyrics and amazing video in my archive chamber. Follow me here or on Facebook if you want to have the latest Woodkid news and lyrics !!!
PS: If you like...I've got all tracks from the EP on my mini i-pod !!! Enjoy !!!
here innocences burn in flames
A million mile from home, I’m walking ahead
I’m frozen to the bones, I am
A soldier on my own, I don’t know the way
I’m riding up the heights of shame
I’m waiting for the call, the hand on the chest
I’m ready for the fight, and fate
The sound of iron shocks is stuck in my head,
The thunder of the drums dictates
The rhythm of the falls, the number of deads
The rising of the horns, ahead
From the dawn of time to the end of days
I will have to run, away
I want to feel the pain and the bitter taste
Of the blood on my lips, again
This deadly burst of snow is burning my hands,
I’m frozen to the bones, I am
A million mile from home, I’m walking away
I can’t remind your eyes, your face
Here is another video, where you can see a live performance from Woodkid. For me it's clear, I've got to see this awesome guy live on stage !!!
Today is Kurt Cobains Death anniversary. It's been 17 !!! years now, can you believe that ?
If you grew up during the famous Grunge Era like I did, this still means something to you. They did a lot for me, you and the music scene.
I chose some pictures of Kurt on which he doesn't look so angry or tired. I wanted to have photos where he looks handsome ( what he actually was !!!).
Here are the Lithium Lyrics
I'm so happy 'cause today
I've found my friends ...
They're in my head
I'm so ugly, but that's okay, 'cause so are you ...
We've broken our mirrors (Alt: We broke our mirrors)
Sunday morning is everyday for all I care ...
And I'm not scared
Light my candles, in a daze
'Cause I've found god
Hey, hey hey [x6]
I'm so lonely, but that's okay, I shaved my head ...
And I'm not sad
And just maybe I'm to blame for all I've heard ...
But I'm not sure
I'm so excited, I can't wait to meet you there ...
But I don't care
I'm so horny, but that's okay ...
My will is good
Hey, hey hey [x6]
[x2]
I like it - I'm not gonna crack
I miss you - I'm not gonna crack
I love you - I'm not gonna crack
I killed you - I'm not gonna crack
I'm so happy 'cause today
I've found my friends ...
They're in my head
I'm so ugly, but that's okay, 'cause so are you ...
We've broken our mirrors (Alt: We broke our mirrors)
Sunday morning is everyday for all I care ...
And I'm not scared
Light my candles in a daze ...
'Cause I've found god
Hey, hey hey [x6]
[x2]
I like it - I'm not gonna crack
I miss you - I'm not gonna crack
I love you - I'm not gonna crack
I killed you - I'm not gonna crack
before I post about Elbow, I have to post about this incredible band. I guess you all know about Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince ( Kate Moss future husband !!!). Now they released their new album " Blood Pressures ", after Alison had worked with Jack White ( White Stripes ) on two Dead Weather records.
So check out their latest video ( oh this chemistry between them...Jamie, what do want from Kate ???) and have a look at this fantastic Dead Weather Video and then read the brilliant critic of "Blood Pressures". My friend Jens wrote it for FastForward Magazine. http://www.tape.tv/musikvideos/The-Dead-Weather/Treat-Me-Like-Your-Mother
